Have you been waiting for the 2017 Toyota Highlander, especially its Hybrid variant? Toyota has brought this new design as one of the top choices of its midsize crossover SUV. In Australia and Japan, this model comes with a different name – Toyota Kluger. There have been 3 generations of this model since 2000. The next-gen of Highlander will have competitors in the new Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, and Ford Explorer.

But what is new in the new Toyota Highlander 2017?

There is a new front grille that comes in different finishes of each trim level. There are three new colors available besides the standard nine color options. What is more important there is a new 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox.

In the terms of exterior, the new 2017 Toyota Highlander looks quite similar to its predecessor. It will come in 6 trim levels which also includes a new sporty SE variant. Hybrid variants, beside Limited and Platinum models, now will be available in two new LE and XLE grades. There are some slight modifications on the front grille, rear bumper, headlights, and taillights.

Silver coated finished grille will be available on LE, LE Plus, and XLE models while Limited and Platinum models will receive chrome finish. On the rear of the car, we can notice new sleeker taillights. When it comes to the color of the new 2017 Highlander, besides the available 9 color options there are three new colors: Celestial Silver Metallic, Salsa Red Pearl (only on SE models), and Walnut Pearl.

Nice touch of luxury you will be able to feel in Limited and Limited Platinum models. There are will be available with 19-inch Chromtec alloy wheels and a powered panoramic moonroof. This new midsize crossover SUV will maintain its superior performance. Moreover, it will use advanced technologies. All lights, headlights, daytime running lights, and taillights, will use LED technology.

The new Toyota Highlander 2017 also makes some small changes inside the cabin. You will get seats for up to eight peoples. Higher trim levels will come with heated and ventilated leather front seats. Some people believe that the car will include a big 6.1-inch touchscreen in base models while top models will include an 8-inch touchscreen color display.

Standard equipment will include the Entune Audio system with Bluetooth and music streaming, integrated backup camera, Hill-start assists control, and Star Safety System which includes Vehicle Stability Control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Traction Control, Smart Stop Technology, Anti-lock Braking System, and Brake Assist. Optional equipment includes many features such as Entune Audio Plus and Premium Audio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, an integrated navigation system, Blu-ray DVD rear-seat entertainment system, Chromtec roof rails, three-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, Homelink system, Anti-theft system, etc.

2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid specs


The 2017 Toyota Highlander will come with two engine options. The first engine option and standard one will be the 2.7-liter DOHC inline-4. It can produce 185 horsepower with 184-pound feet of torque. It will come only with 6-speed automatic transmission. Models with this base engine will be available only with a front-wheel-drive system which should be good for 22 mpg of combined fuel economy. The second powerplant will be an all-new 3.5-liter Direct Injection V6 engine. Toyota hasn’t revealed its power but it should produce around 280 horsepower. This engine will be with both FWD and AWD drivetrain configuration and it will come with all-new 8-speed CVT automatic transmission.

New Toyota Highlander hybrid will also be available with the 2017 year model. It will combine a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine with a high-torque electric motor/generator. With a hybrid system, the 2017 Highlander will produce 280 total system horsepower. When it comes to fuel economy it should be the most fuel-efficient Highlander ever with over 28 mpg of combined driving.

2017 Toyota Highlander price


You can feel the heat among people. They have been waiting for the official release of the Toyota Highlander 2017.

According to Toyota’s official announcement, the new Highlander and Highlander Hybrid will come to the Toyota showrooms in the fall of 2016.

When it comes to the price we should wait for the upcoming New York Auto Show. If we consider that it will come with small upgrades, the expected base price should be around $30,000.

The 2017 Toyota Highlander price should be quite affordable as you get all special functions and features.
